Antique Saddle

Period: 1800 - 1900

Overall Length: 13 5/8"

70 oz

This is not the glitter saddle that you commonly see in the museum exhibition. This saddle is a simple one, totally made of solid wood and no lustrous
metallic luster in any decoration. It is believed that this saddle was used mostly by villagers and farmers on horses and donkeys in daily usage. The
saddle is not for horses in military and transportation purposes.

The saddle is painted in two tones, the jet black and Chinese red. Both pommel and cantle have no shining decorations. All straps are made of leather, and used to connect parts of saddle tightly. The stirrups were made of woven fabrics.

The preservation of wooded saddle or any subject of good conditions is not very common because of its susceptibility to burial erosion.
